At the Drive In – photos from 1999

This Station is Now Operational

On January 12th, 2012,  At the Drive In broke radio silence. After 11 years, the ATDI station is once again operational. Reading about the 2012 Coachella line up sent me into a bit of a nostalgia spiral, longing for times past that seem like 11 months ago, but were actually 11 years ago.

Part of my memory tour was spent in my hard drive, culling photos of fresh-faced bands playing small shows at Knights of Columbus halls and tiny bars.

So, I present, as either a badge of my scene cred, or a telling tale of my age, five photos of a band at their peak.

After seeing The Mars Volta’s surprise show at SXSW 2011, I’m sure At the Drive In will bring it back like it never left.

Raidious Social Media Command Center for Super Bowl XLVI featured on Mashable

Raidious was featured on Mashable today. For those not in the know, Mashable is a pretty big deal on the internet. Taulbee Jackson and I were interviewed last week for this story on our Social Media Command Center for this year’s Super Bowl.

Read “Super Bowl XLVI Gets a Social Media Command Center” on Mashable.

The Raidious team has done a great job gearing up for the next two weeks in the past two years. I’m glad to work with such amazing folks every day.

Plush Star Wars Vehicles

Crash land one of these into the side of the death star and just try to stay awake!

When Luke Skywalker was a kid, he wasn’t allowed to fly his T-16. He was too small. So, he played with plush versions of spaceships and vehicles. They were safer, softer, and didn’t have any blasters he could shoot his eye out with. After doing a lot of research (and some back alley deals with villainous scum), we found the original manufacturer and made them a deal. One kidney later, we can offer these SD Star Wars Plush Vehicles to you! Seriously, look at these SD Star Wars Plush Vehicles – they are adorable? They are also really fun to fly (or walk) around your office. Just provide your own noises and sound effects, and you’ll amuse (and/or annoy) everyone in your workplace. And then when they get mad at you, just chuck your Millennium Falcon at their head. It won’t hurt them because it’s plush. YAY. SD Star Wars Plush Vehicles – just like the real thing, only plushier. SD Star Wars Plush Vehicles Super cute plush forms on your favorite Star Wars vehicles.

Three styles to choose from: X-Wing, Millennium Falcon, and AT-AT.

Dimensions: X-Wing: approx. 6.25″ x 7.75″ x 2.25″ Millennium Falcon: 6″ x 8.25″ x 2″ AT-AT: 3.25″ x 6.5″ x 6″

These are seriously cool – I think I may have to pick up a set for my son’s already plushed out loft bed.

The Winter Sounds – Another KickStarter Project

I swear I  wrote this post the other day, but it the internets apparently ate it.

The Winter Sounds are incredible. Imagine for a minute that you are Robert Smith, only born in 1979 and living in Athens Georgia. You start a band and it comes out as the Winter Sounds.

The band is getting ready to record a new record and I sincerely recommend that you get involved. If you plegde 30 dollars you will get the record, a shirt, and your face on the cover. Awesome.

If my rambling opinion isn’t enough to get you to drop some coin, take a listen to some of the tracks below. These are some of my personal favorites from The Winter Sounds most recent release, “Church of the Haunted South.” This is one my best of 2009, hands down.

If you like what you hear be sure to pick up the record from the Winter Sounds’ bandcamp page.
