On the weekend of February 24th, I was fortunate enough to join my friend Jonathon Newby (formerly of Brazil) on the road as part of JC Autobody. Newby put a great band together featuring Eric Johnson (also from Brazil) and Russ Cogdell (from Zao).

Here is a taste:

This was a particularly awesome weekend for me. It was partly trip down memory lane, partly a new adventure, and partly an earache. A quick chance to play music with people I had never collaborated with, but who were pretty instrumental in my musical makeup.

If you can, hop in the DeLorean and let’s get up to 88. The story goes like this:

In the year 1997 or 1998, I went to a music festival in Muncie, Indiana. At this music festival were many many bands. Among these insane bands was one called Zao, an intense metal band that looked a lot like this:

Behind this festival (the same festival where I first bore witness to the amazing guitar prowess of Jared Southwick) was a pale guy with tattoos named Jonathon Newby. Throughout my years at Ball State University, Newby and I would cross paths and see each other at shows, many of them featuring awesome bands he brought to town. Quite a few times brought Zao through as they toured.

I had a few chances between 2000 and 2002 to play with Zao while in Mara’Akate, and had met Russ in passing, and shared gear on occasion. Zao was an incredible band, and full of good guys. Basically we would show up, say hi, all freak out and get back on the road.

A decade later, and Russ is still crushing it in Zao. Evidence:

In short, it was really great to play with these guys, two guys that I never thought I’d have an opportunity to make music with, let along geek out about cameras, movies, and 90s Nickelodeon shows with.

Thanks guys, let’s do it again soon. Now I’m heading back to the future.

As the big game starts, I am at the Super Bowl Social Media Command Center going through photos from the last two weeks. I’ve been at the office every day, but was able to spend some time enjoying the festivities with family and friends. It has been a crazy time – here are some highlights via photos.

I’m not a huge sports fan, but it has been amazing to be here and involved!

Happy Holidays so far. I’ve avoided any Black Friday temptation and enjoyed a nice long weekend with family and friends. This year I am thankful for many things. I am always thankful for my wife, my two sons, my dog, and even the cat. I’m thankful for everyone in my extended family as well, and all of the great friends I have across the globe, and for the team at Raidious and all of our great partners and clients.

An extra special long weekend thanks goes out to my son, who was kind enough to decorate our Christmas tree on his own this morning as the rest of the family slept.

People email me when they have work and when they need work.

This week I have a few opportunities that have crossed my desk, and I thought I’d share one really cool position located here in Indianapolis.

The position is “Manager of Operations” for a group called The Mind Trust. I had the opportunity to meet some of their fellowship recipients a few years ago, and I was very impressed with the work and the organization behind it. More recently I had the opportunity to hear their CEO David Harris speak on a panel at ExactTarget’s Connections 2011.

Here it is!

Manager of Operations

The Mind Trust is taking a bold, new approach to education reform. Driven by results, we are strategically building a network of the nation’s best education reform organizations here in Indianapolis. Together, these organizations, led by visionary education entrepreneurs, are already putting their ideas into action and working to transform our schools. The Mind Trust believes that aggressively growing these organizations is our community’s most promising strategy to invest in real, lasting reform, and will speed up the day when all students, regardless of their circumstances, receive an excellent education.

If you are interested, you can download the job description here, and contact Ken Bubp with questions and/or send a resume, cover letter, and salary expectations. You can reach him at kbubp@themindtrust.org.

Hello throngs of website visitors searching for “rick rolled,” “wolf monkey,” and “Jeremy McKinnon.”

I have a lot of posts saved up from the past few months, so maybe I can start ditching those search results for Jeremy Mckinnon, but I’ll admit the “wolf monkey” results had me stumped. Remember “Gerald,” the photoshop job I did with the monkey on the lap of teen wolf’s dad? Well, it ranks somewhere for “wolf monkey.”

I’ve wrapped up a couple of projects this year (most notably Thin Fevers) and begun the ignition sequence for a few new projects (a new band and a comic book to start) all while keeping things rolling at Raidious. July brought our company it’s second anniversary, and we’ve learned a lot and had a lot of success. I am continuously flattered by the talent that I get to work with and the great things our customers and colleagues have to say about us.

We launched Raidious Control in March.

As I mentioned, Thin Fevers is no more, but I am happy to say that I am involved with a new music project, details of which will be coming soon. I’d like to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who ever came out to see Thin Fevers, and all of the great folks that wanted to see us, but couldn’t. I’ve got audio of our last show, once it sounds good, I’ll be sure to post.

Also, I just welcomed my second son home, so I will be watching that new Will Arnet show.

More later.

A little satire on Saturday.

I found myself with some time during the Icepocalypse, and jotted this down, so I today present a little satire for your Saturday.

The mid-west froze in it’s slow paced tracks last week as, “Icepocalypse 2011″ slid it’s way across the country. Quickly followed up Snowpocalypse, meteorologists now turn their gaze toward something far, far more sinister.

Aprils’ Reign of Showers.
“I’ve already got me a pontoon boat.” said James “Jamie” Kurnch of Mooresville, Indiana. I use it down on Lake Cataract every summer – way I figger, I’ll just be getting drunk sooner!”

Not all residents are as laid back. “I DON’T HAVE A BOAT, OMG WTF WILL I DO TO SAVE MY TRENDY RESTAURANT!” wrote twitter user @winecellar1977. To translate, we went to local president of social media expert science lab, and mayor of 93 local foursquare locations, Kenny Savage, and he gave us this totally unrelated quote.

“Many have come to me, saying… how will you cope with the intrusion on your bohemian lifestyle, and attend all of those networking events?! Let’s just say… someone owns some special twitter handles, and has already started working on something special for the future of the web.”

How will the world cope?! Time will only tell. Be sure to come back for our next report:

“Pilgramage – how May’s flowers will bring us home.”

I must say, it was a worthwhile experience. I definitely recommend watching the original before you go, as the film is not only full of eye candy and epic action, but nods to the original film as well. The plot is what you’d expect from the trailers, and not much more, but I left wanting more; which tells me Disney has definitely set Tron up for a new franchise.

My only criticism is the Jeff Bridges CGI. I’ll try to not to spoil anything – let’s just say that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

As I mentioned, it is worth seeing at the iMax if you can. This was the first feature I’ve enjoyed in that experience, and I’ll look to do it again. The 3D in the film is tasteful and enveloping, and helps bring the viewer into the new, updated world of The Grid.

The Indianapolis State Museum iMax is raffling off a working vintage Tron arcade game as well during the run, so be sure to enter the contest, and throw a big Tron themed party if you win.

Things at Raidious are never dull. We are currently working on a project that involves an interview with Indianapolis Colts player Pierre Garcon. Matt Chandler was kind enough to put together a behind the scenes video and blog post detailing the day. I have a brief cameo at 00:15. Enjoy!
